Enoshima Island Day Trip Itinerary
Best for First visits, photography, shrine grounds and sunset

A flexible Enoshima walking route that connects the island's major sights without pretending the island is flat or every attraction will be open. It works as a Tokyo day trip or as one half of an Enoshima–Kamakura day.

A practical order
- Arrive at one of the three nearby rail stations, then walk toward the island across Enoshima Benten Bridge.
- Climb Nakamise-dori toward the red torii and the three principal Enoshima Shrine areas; use the Escar if stairs are a concern.
- Continue to the Samuel Cocking Garden and Sea Candle for the broad Shonan Coast view.
- If time, weather and opening status allow, descend toward Chigogafuchi and the Iwaya Caves.
- Leave enough daylight and energy for the return climb; the far western side is not a flat add-on.
How long to allow
JNTO recommends allowing at least a few hours for the island and a full day if you add the nearby beach, cafes or onsen. Crowds, stairs, meal lines and attraction closures can change the pace.
For a calmer visit, start early and treat sunset as a bonus rather than the moment you begin the return from the far coast.
Small choices that improve the day
- Wear shoes that handle stairs and wet coastal surfaces.
- Keep voices and filming considerate around worshippers at the shrine.
- Use marked paths and posted access; coastal rock shelves are not a shortcut.
- Check current attraction status before crossing the bridge.
