Why choose this trail

Aquifer ecology and an easy family hike. The natural area offers about three miles of hiking trails; the main compacted-granite and limestone route to Jacob's Well is about a quarter mile. Link outer paths for the full network.

Landscape & habitat

Jacob's Well is an artesian spring connected to the Trinity Aquifer and Cypress Creek. Thin limestone soils support Hill Country woodland while the spring makes groundwater conditions visible at the surface.

Access, passes & rules

Hiking is currently free and needs no reservation during posted hours. Swimming has not been permitted since June 2022 because low water made conditions unsafe; do not imply that hiking access includes swimming.

Conditions & hazards

Stay out of the well when swimming is closed, remain on trail in the sensitive preserve and carry water despite the short distances.
