Lopez looks low and inviting from shore, but its exposed approaches feel the full combination of Rosario current, ferry wakes, wind chop, and submerged structure. A calm launch does not guarantee a calm return.
Use Lopez Sound and protected shorelines as conservative options when the outer water is not worth it. Match the boat to the route rather than matching the route to the fish report.
Access is part of the fishing plan
Public access, private property, launch conditions, and parking vary around the island. Confirm the actual access point before the trip and never cross tidelands or docks simply because a map makes them look public.
Kayaks and small craft need extra margin around current funnels. Stay within a route you can reverse under your own power if the wind changes.
What to look for
Productive water often announces itself through bait, birds, rip edges, and contour changes. Fish the lawful, navigable water you can safely hold rather than crowding an exact mark.
