Why choose this trail

Water, geology and history close to Buda. The 3.1-mile Homestead Trail loops through the park's historic and natural landscape, with optional short spurs to falls, rock shelter and gristmill features.

Landscape & habitat

Onion Creek cuts through limestone and older volcanic ash deposits, creating falls, pools and riparian bald cypress habitat. Upland sections are drier oak-juniper woodland.

Access, passes & rules

The state park charges day-use fees and often reaches capacity from March through November, so TPWD recommends reserving a day pass before the drive.

Conditions & hazards

Do not enter floodwater or climb near slick falls. Check active park alerts, carry ample water and protect historic resources.
