Wolf Mountain Loop
A half-day Pedernales Falls loop through oak-juniper hills, springs and creek crossings. Flash-flood rule: rising or muddy water means move uphill immediately.
Why choose this trail
A half-day Hill Country loop. The official 5.5-mile loop circles Wolf Mountain on gravel double-track, passing Hill Country vistas, springs and usually dry creek crossings. Jones Spring can be added for a longer day.
Landscape & habitat
Layered limestone, oak-juniper woodland and spring-fed creek pockets create the classic Hill Country mosaic. Coyote, deer and many birds use the water-and-cover pattern.
Access, passes & rules
The park charges day-use fees and frequently reaches capacity; reserve before visiting. Trails may close after weather.
Conditions & hazards
Flash floods are the defining danger. If water rises or turns muddy, move to high ground immediately; TPWD also advises roughly one quart of water per hour of activity in heat.
