Skyline Trail
Paradise wildflowers in August are a national event — and the mountain hangs over the whole loop like a moon that got too close. Entry systems change by year; check the park before you drive.
Why choose this trail
Rainier wildflowers and glacier views. The loop climbs from Paradise toward Panorama Point, crosses open subalpine slopes and returns through meadow. Posted routing can change with snow and restoration work.
Landscape & habitat
Paradise meadows have an extremely short growing season; avalanche lilies and lupine must flower quickly after melt. Footsteps off trail compact these fragile soils for years.
Access, passes & rules
A national park entrance pass is required. Reservation or timed-entry systems can change by year, so check the park's current visit-planning page rather than relying on an old rule.
Conditions & hazards
Fog, snowfields and rapid weather shifts occur even in summer. Stay on maintained trail and away from steep snow without the right skills.
