Tolmie Peak

A lookout above Eunice Lake with the whole northwest face of Rainier filling the sky. Normal Mowich Lake access is currently blocked by the Fairfax Bridge closure — keep this one saved for when the park confirms the road is reachable.

Why choose this trail

A lake-and-lookout combination when access is open. From Mowich Lake, the route passes Eunice Lake and climbs to the historic lookout on Tolmie Peak. The return retraces the same trail.

Landscape & habitat

Forest gives way to a subalpine lake, heather and a rocky lookout ridge with direct views of Rainier's northwest glaciers.

Access, passes & rules

Access depends on the seasonal Mowich Lake Road. As of this review, the Fairfax Bridge closure blocks normal public access from SR 165; consult Mount Rainier National Park before planning the drive.

Conditions & hazards

Do not route around a road closure. When access returns, expect rough gravel, limited services and lingering snow.
