Why choose this trail

Subalpine meadow and marmot watching. Follow the Wonderland Trail from Fryingpan Creek through forest, cross the creek and climb to the broad Summerland meadows. Panhandle Gap is a separate, harder extension.

Landscape & habitat

The route follows a strong elevation gradient from old forest to flower-rich meadow beneath Little Tahoma. Marmots are common because talus and meadow provide both refuge and forage.

Access, passes & rules

Park entrance fees apply and the small roadside trailhead fills early. Check Stevens Canyon-area road status and park alerts.

Conditions & hazards

Creek crossings, lingering snow and exposed heat above tree line all deserve attention. Give wildlife space and protect meadow vegetation.
