Mount Ellinor
A steep lower-trailhead climb from Olympic forest to limestone summit views over Hood Canal. Snow turns the upper mountain into mountaineering terrain.
Why choose this trail
A steep Olympic summit. The lower trail climbs gently for about a mile, then steepens and meets the upper-route system near timberline. This listing uses the lower trailhead for a full summit day.
Landscape & habitat
The trail climbs from Olympic conifer forest into exposed limestone and alpine terrain overlooking Hood Canal. Mountain goats use the summit area and are powerful wild animals, not photo props.
Access, passes & rules
Forest roads and the upper trailhead are seasonal. A Northwest Forest Pass is normally required; check Olympic National Forest alerts and road conditions.
Conditions & hazards
Snow turns the upper route into a mountaineering objective, while the summer path remains very steep and loose. Keep substantial distance from goats.
