Mount Storm King
Short and vertical, with fixed ropes near the top and Lake Crescent glowing turquoise two thousand feet below. Not for loose shoes or loose nerves.
Why choose this trail
A short, very steep lake viewpoint. The path branches from the Marymere Falls area and climbs very steeply above Lake Crescent. The maintained trail ends before an unofficial rope-assisted section; turning around there is a valid summit-day decision.
Landscape & habitat
The climb rises from moist lakeshore forest to a dry, exposed ridge created by the rain shadow on the northeast Olympics.
Access, passes & rules
Olympic National Park entrance rules apply. Start from the Lake Crescent/Marymere Falls area and obey any closure at the upper route.
Conditions & hazards
Loose soil, steep drop-offs and the unofficial rope section cause rescues. Wet weather sharply increases risk.
