Why choose this trail

Close-up Rainier and Emmons Glacier views. From Sunrise, use the Sourdough Ridge/Frozen Lake or Sunrise Rim approach to First Burroughs and continue to Second Burroughs for the listed seven-mile day.

Landscape & habitat

Burroughs Mountain holds some of the most accessible alpine tundra in the Cascades. Plants grow slowly in wind, cold and thin soil, so leaving the constructed trail causes lasting damage.

Access, passes & rules

Park entrance fees apply and Sunrise Road is normally open only from early summer into early fall. Check current park access before leaving.

Conditions & hazards

Steep snow-covered slopes can remain after the road opens. There is little shelter from sun, wind or storms, and pets are not allowed on park trails.
